Get Your Life On Step 1

A FREE COURSE ON HOW TO CREATE AND ACTIVATE YOUR GOALS

STEP ONE: WHERE ARE YOU RIGHT NOW?

Firstly, let me say congratulations for even bothering to look at this page. Most people know what they need to do when it comes to achieving their goals but they just don’t do it. You have taken a positive step forward. Onya!

Before we begin, first get yourself in a positive frame of mind for achieving your goals. You may already have an idea of what you want or you may be lost or discouraged. Either way, it is crucial that you feel confident you can move forward. If you don’t feel confident, then start off by pretending. It may sound crazy but your mind will eventually believe what you tell it if you do so often enough.

You can mentally prepare by evoking positive feelings that support your desires. This can be as simple as putting a smile on your face or you could think constructive thoughts such as ‘I can set and achieve my goals’ or ‘I know what I want and how to get it’. This kind of preparation will enable you to get the most out of this course. It will also fortify every one of your decisions and actions from here on.

The other important thing to do is to make a commitment to completing this course. It’s not a big task. All you need to do is set aside half an hour a day, seven days in a row and you will be well on your way!

So, let’s get started…

Choosing your path

Every day – even if you’re not aware of it – you follow a path according to a system of approach. You get out of bed, have breakfast, get dressed and go to work. You make decisions such as what to wear, what to eat, where to park, when to go to lunch and so on. Some of those things are automatic due to expectations or habit. Other things require prior thought and planning. Whatever the motivation for your actions, if you don’t determine a specific route, and then stop once in a while to evaluate where you’re going, then you may find yourself where you don’t want to be.

Goals direct your actions, and your actions lead you to your goals. When you direct your decisions and actions, you take control of your life. You act rather than react. When your choices and decisions are in alignment with your strengths, values and needs, then you live an authentic life.

Action leads to accomplishment

Before you can begin to direct your decisions and actions, you must first establish where you are. If you don’t, then you risk making decisions based on speculation rather than on a solid understanding of what you really want. You also risk wasting your time and energy on what you suspect you might want instead of what you know with conviction that you do want.

What matters the most to you

Often we think more about the things that we aren’t happy about in our lives, rather than the things that bring us joy.

When defining real success, think about what matters the most to you. Things like being a good parent, experiencing new things, having a good work/life balance, or managing your money may be important to you. When you excel in what means the most to you, it deepens and profoundly enriches your life.

Reminding yourself of the activities that you enjoy, the people you respect and admire, and the successes you have already achieved will make you feel grateful. It will also give you motivation and encouragement to nurture future accomplishments.

Knowing your strengths and abilities

Even if you not aware of them, you have traits that enable you to do things really well and make you feel valuable, such as sharing your skills and knowledge, making people feel good about themselves, playing guitar or running a marathon.

If you know your strengths then you can determine how to approach a situation, how to perform better and where to focus your attention. Determining your strengths is also a means of establishing a direction.

Spend some time thinking about what you are good at. This will put you in a positive frame of mind for setting your goals.

Review time…

To fully understand where you are right now in all aspects of your life, it helps to:

  • Be grateful for what you already have.
  • Recognise your strengths.
  • Identify what aspects of your life need more attention.

No matter what kind of life you want, this is a wonderful way to build it for yourself… starting now!  Stay tuned for Step 2 next week. Until then… enjoy where you are :) :) :)
